6th April 2010 - Binjour Range Rest Area - Gayndah District

Located 17k North West Gayndah or 28k East Mundubbera – This rest area is situated at the top of the range and has panoramic views over the Gayndah District and the Burnett River. The area itself is reasonably level with plenty of shade. Septic toilets, shelter sheds, and tables are provided with water being available from tanks attached to the toilet block. The traffic on the highway is minimal at night and an undisturbed nights rest is assured.

5th March 2010 - McConnell lookout - Gayndah District

This great lookout is located about 6k north of Gayndah and reached by turning off the Bennett Highway at Mount Debatable Road (Signposted) to Renay Robinson Drive. The road is narrow and steep to the lookout and caravans are not recommended (We suggest you drive up and have a look. We had no trouble reaching the top and turning around) Composting toilets, shelter sheds, tank water, and BBQ’s are all here at this level, shaded parking area. The view over the Burnett River Valley is well worth the trip to the lookout and the city lights (Gayndah) is also worth while viewing.

23rd February 2010 - Paradise Dam - 18k North West of Biggenden

Paradise Dam located about 18k North West of Biggenden via Degilbo. Reached by following Coringa Road and River Road to this excellent site where there are level camping sites beside the lake in view of the Paradise Dam. Composting toilets, shelter sheds, BBQ’s, and a boat ramp are all here for the camper. There is a tank for drinking water and beside the fish cleaning table is a tap for water suitable for washing. Unfortunately there is little shade but the outlook and facilities provided make up for this little inconvenience. The road from Biggenden is sealed all the way and we recommend a bit of rest and relaxation at this site.

12th February 2010 - Kumbia Apex Park - Kingaroy District

This 48 hour rest area is located opposite the Police Station in Kumbia which is approximately 27k’s South of Kingaroy. Hot showers, powered sites on level, shady, well grassed areas make this an exceptional location to spend two nights. Not far from the camping area is a hotel, a general store and a butcher’s shop. We were fortunate enough to have the company of Lizzie with her electric organ who entertained a mixture of Caravan and Motorhome travellers during the afternoon. If in the area, we highly recommend a stay here and encourage you to leave a donation for the power to enable this “free” camping site to remain.

We request that campers obey the 48 hour limit and leave a reasonable donation prior to leaving.

If using Air-conditioning, make sure you leave enough to compensate this friendly town for their hospitality. We feel that unless campers obey the few requirements that exist, we will lose another excellent camping site due to abuse.

2nd January 2010 - Bauple Recreation Ground - Tiaro District

Approximately 10k south of Tiaro off the Bruce Highway is the Bauple Recreation Ground that is about 200m from the General Store and Post Office. Marc at the store makes campers feel welcome and he encourages visitors to use the facilities provided at the recreation area which is level and well grassed. Septic toilets and hot showers are provided but visitors are requested not to use the power as the small community cannot afford to support the many campers that use these facilities.

The Chairman of the recently completed Men’s Shed John Williams advises that it is open on Tuesday and Saturday 9am to 3pm and is well set up for wood and metal projects. Three sewing machines have been donated; one of them being an industrial machine, should be set up in the near future.

We recommend a stay at this friendly town where take-aways (please order early) can be obtained from the local store

PLEASE NOTE - This grassed area is no longer available for campers. There is a small area set aside near the Q150 shed where overnight stays are currently tolerated but this area is NOT zoned as a camping area. The practice of camping in this area may be under review by council in the near future.
