15th March 2012 – Kandanga RV Camping Area – Gympie District – Qld.

The small town of Kandanga is located approximately 24k South of Gympie where the friends of Kandanga Group have established an excellent camping ground opposite the swimming pool and within a short walk of the town centre, hotel and bowling club. The facilities include level asphalt / grassy sites close to a park where a fireplace and firewood are available. The swimming pool has hot showers for a gold coin donation when the pool is open. Other facilities include toilets, an electric BBQ and a shelter shed with tables. The information centre building, in the main street has a library, café, and is a must stop to enquire about the surrounding district’s attractions including the Railway stations, Amamoor camping area, Imbil’s antiques and campgrounds. There is a time limit of 72 hours and donations for the use of the campground and facilities are welcome

27th August 2010 - Clancys Campground - Emu Creek Campground - Benarkin State Forest - Blackbutt District - Qld

Located about 15k South East of Blackbutt along a dirt road via Benarkin Forest Drive is Clancys campground that is well grassed, shaded, level and sloping and is situated beside Emu Creek. There is a bush walk along the creek edge to Emu Creek campground approx 2k further along the road. Both these camping grounds have septic toilets and tap water that is not suitable for drinking but suitable for showering. Unfortunately, due to it some bureaucrat in a city office who has never left a desk, campers are required to register prior to camping by phoning or by email. I have pointed out to Queensland Parks that there is no phone or internet coverage and await their reply. A great place to spend some time and we recommend both these sites. Clancys Campground

16th August 2010 - Linville Village Rest Area

Linville is reached by turning North off the D’Aguilar Highway at Moore and driving along a sealed road to a camping site at the old railway station opposite the pub. The area is well grassed and level and a septic toilet is close by. Power and water are available if required. There is a general store that has basic provisions and daily newspapers. The old railway line is part of a “rail trail” that goes from Blackbutt, through Benarkin to North of Linville and is popular with horse riders, walkers and push bikers. A nice quiet place to spend a night or two amongst the rugged mountain ridges.

19th June 2010 - Oakey Creek Reserve Rest Area

Located about 5k South of Bowenville in the Dalby / Toowoomba District, this vast open well grassed area has some shade trees and plenty of level sites for camping. The local council patrols this site to prevent vandalism and squatters setting up permanent camps. The toilets are septic and have recently been painted. No water other than the creek water is available so bring plenty of fresh water with you. Shelter sheds, tables, and bins are provided at this site

26th April 2010 - Thornton Centenary Park - Thornton

20k South of Laidley is Thornton Centenary Park. This quiet park has a, free BBQ’s, a children’s playground and a shelter shed. This large, level, grassy area with some shade is a beautiful place to spend a few quiet nights away from the bustle of Brisbane and suburbs.
The ablution complex has a laundry with a tub and hot water, hot showers and composting toilets. A ranger from Laidley visits the site to collect fees which are very reasonable. There are no shops near the area so be prepared with food and water (water at the site is not suitable for drinking) if you consider staying here for any length of time. We think that access to the waterway would be seasonal as there were only pools during our stay.
