17th May 2007 – Reid River Rest Area – Between Townsville & Charters Towers

Situated approx 58k South of Townsville and 75k North East of Charters Towers, this rest area is located between the highway and the railway line just north of the William Henry Webb Bridge which crosses the Reid River. The area has septic toilets, three shelter sheds, good open areas, wood BBQ’s and a reasonable amount of shade. Stays at the area are limited to 20 hours and campers are requested to camp away from the shelter sheds which are to be left to the travelling public. Unfortunately, the newly erected signs have been vandalised and the request to keep the sheds clear for the travelling public has been obliterated which will give the authorities another reason to close down an overnight stop. Will we ever learn!!!! We found the overnight stay very good with very little traffic and few trains.
