19th May 2007 – Cape River Camping Area – Between Charters Towers & Belyando Crossing

This Un-shaded parking area is approximately 111k South Of Charters Towers and 92k North of Belyando Crossing. A popular place to rest overnight, this rest area has no facilities and is popular for trucks to check their loads during the day and night. A walk of approximately 300m to the river is well worth the effort. The weeping willows and gum trees are worth photographing. Across the bridge is a small clearing with a track leading up a small incline past a pumping station. A further 2 or 300 meters up the track are a couple of good level clearings suitable for camping. This area should be inspected prior to setting up camp as some rigs may not fit and reversing / turning around may be difficult. These sites may give relief from the noise of trucks during the night. All in all, a good spot to spend a night or two and do a bit of fishing.
